How does marijuana help with anxiety

Hey Imperial buddies!

Today, lets discuss how to cope with anxiety, because let’s face it – we all have it! So what exactly is anxiety and how can we use cannabis to help cope with anxiety?

What is anxiety?

The best way for me to describe what anxiety is, is to express how I get when I feel anxious. Anxiety for me comes when I feel afraid, lonely, stressed, sad, etc. My anxiety tends to take over me in way that is so overwhelming that I can’t control the way I breathe or think. Now if you’re an over thinker and a worry wort like me, you should know exactly what I’m talking about!

How does marijuana help cope with anxiety?

There are so many ways and things to do to help cope with anxiety such as exercise, hobbies like painting or singing and much more, but for many, medicinal marijuana has been a great source. When you are taking it upon yourself to treat or cope with any medical issues or symptoms, it’s called self medicating.

On days when I feel the most anxious or worried, taking a puff has helped me immensely. It’s like every fiber in my body just relaxes and my mind tells me that everything will be ok. I can personally vouch that marijuana is a great source to help cope with any symptoms of anxiety or depression in small doses.

Speaking from personal experiences, although marijuana has made me feel great and eased my anxious mind at times, it has also lead me to horrible panic attacks, but only because I was unaware of how much my body could take. That being said, when you are experiencing with something new, I honestly can’t stress it enough to ease your way in slowly.

Understanding marijuana affects

In our brains, there is a chemical called anandamide, which is basically the same thing as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) that is the active component of marijuana that gives you that high feeling. THC moves from your lungs into your bloodstream and throughout your body. Within minutes, your heart rate may increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute. Because it moves so quickly into your bloodstream, this tends to ease symptoms of anxiety, depression, pain, or stress very quickly.

Taking that into consideration, because it moves so quickly into your bloodstreams, you need to be cautious of the amount you take. You need to be mindful of your weight, your age, how often you smoke as this affects your tolerance and what your body is used to. A mistake I have made is smoking way too much for what my body could handle and this affected my anxiety which completely sky rocketed.
